iPhone 8 Plus vs iPhone X Comparison

iPhone 8 Plus vs iPhone X – the battle of the big phones

If you’re looking for a one-handed phone, then you’re in the wrong place (try the iPhone SE). But if you like your phones big, with a good size screen, now’s your chance to find out how these two measure up.

iPhone 8 plus – bigger, longer lasting, and equally fast

Being the older of these two phones by a year or so, you might expect the iPhone 8 Plus to be the slower of the two, but the iPhone X and the iPhone 8 Plus both have the same A11 processor, meaning they are equally fast. In terms of battery, the iPhone 8 Plus has a physically bigger battery, and while you won’t notice much difference in talk time, you’ll probably get an extra hour or two of video out of the iPhone X. If you like them big, then this is the bigger of the two phones at 158.4 x 78.1 mm compared to 143.6 x 70.9 mm. It also weighs 202g just shy of 30 g more than the iPhone X. Sadly with all that size the physical screen is smaller, as the iPhone 8 Plus has the old home button set up with large bezels meaning your screen size is 5.5 inches compared to the edge-to-edge screen on the iPhone X which gives you 5.8 inches.

iPhone X – brighter and sharper with an improved screen and camera

Size isn’t the only reason to celebrate the new edge-to-edge screen, it’s also been given a makeover with Super Retina OLED technology and the difference in image is visible. Both phones have a dual-lens 12 MP rear camera with 2 X optical zoom and portrait mode, but the iPhone X has optical image stabilization on both lenses compared to just one on the iPhone 8 plus. The front camera, although 7 MP just like the iPhone 8 plus, is a whole new ball game with TrueDepth, Face ID, and an infrared sensor (so it can read your face in the dark).

Which is better?

If you’re looking for a fast phone with long battery life, and camera and screen quality are less important then get the cheaper iPhone 8 Plus, it was released around €200 less than the €1,179 iPhone X. But for the smartest camera and most beautiful screen get the iPhone X. You can save money on both phones by buying a refurbished model.
