Review of the refurbished HP EliteBook 845 G8 – A surprisingly good purchase
Listed condition: Good | Condition received: nearly excellent
I bought this refurbished HP EliteBook for my wife, who will mainly use it for video calls, Microsoft Office, Excel, and work-related tasks on web portals.
After receiving it, I ran a few hardware and functionality checks. The results were very positive, especially considering that the device was sold with a “Good” cosmetic grade, while its actual condition seemed much closer to nearly excellent.
1. Technical specifications
- Model: HP EliteBook 845 G8
- Processor: AMD Ryzen 7 PRO 5850U with Radeon Graphics
- CPU: 8 cores and 16 threads, with a maximum frequency of up to 4.4 GHz
- Graphics: Integrated AMD Radeon
- RAM: 16 GB DDR4
- RAM speed: 3200 MT/s
- Storage: 512 GB SSD
- Operating system: Windows 11
- Screen: 14 inches
- Keyboard: Italian QWERTY
The hardware is still well suited to everyday professional use. The Ryzen 7 PRO 5850U has enough performance to handle multiple applications at once, Excel spreadsheets, Office documents, and video conferences with ease.
The 16 GB of RAM is a well-balanced amount, while the 512 GB SSD provides enough space for documents and applications.
2. Battery condition
I generated and checked the Windows battery report. The results were:
Parameter | Value
Design capacity | 53,015 mWh
Full charge capacity | 53,015 mWh
Reported charge cycles | 1
Remaining capacity relative to design capacity | 100%
The most interesting detail is that the full charge capacity matches the design capacity, meaning the report shows 100% of the rated capacity.
The cycle count, which shows just one cycle, is also especially encouraging.
It’s worth noting that these figures alone don’t guarantee the battery’s actual runtime or prove that it has never been used: the counters may have been reset or may not reflect its entire history. Still, the results are certainly encouraging.
3. Functionality checks
After receiving the laptop, I carried out a few practical checks:
- Tested two USB ports; both worked.
- Checked the built-in camera.
- Completed the initial Windows 11 setup.
- Verified that the processor and RAM were recognized in Task Manager.
- Checked the battery diagnostic report.
All the checks I performed were successful. I didn’t find any problems with the functions I tested.
4. Cosmetic condition: better than expected
The cosmetic condition is one of the things that impressed me most.
The seller had graded the device as “Good,” but its actual condition seemed considerably better than I’d expected for that category.
In my opinion, its overall appearance is closer to that of a nearly excellent laptop than one that’s simply in good condition.
This is just my personal impression of its appearance: it doesn’t mean the product is new or completely free of signs of use, only that it looked better than I expected based on its advertised grade.
5. Overall assessment
For the intended use, this computer offers a compelling combination of performance, memory, storage, and features.
The Ryzen 7 PRO 5850U, 16 GB of RAM, and 512 GB SSD make for a solid setup for everyday work. The battery diagnostics look very favorable, and the functionality checks I performed were all positive.
The best part of this purchase is the combination of its hardware and its actual condition: based on the checks I’ve carried out, the laptop has exceeded my initial expectations.
Final verdict: Based on what I’ve checked so far, this refurbished laptop is in better condition than advertised, with hardware that’s still up to the task and a battery showing particularly encouraging results. It has turned out to be a very satisfying choice for my wife’s everyday professional use.
